Wolf Katsina
Wolf (Kweo) Katsina. Whenever the Deer ,Antelope , Mountain Sheep, and Ram katsinas dance during the Summer or Kiva Night Dances another katsina is very frequently seen with them--the Wolf Katsina (Kweo). He is their side dancer and usually come as a pair. He can also be seen during the Bean Dance procession and during a Mixed Katsina Dance. The Blue stick with Feathers and red horsehair he holds in his hands is said to represent trees and bushes that he hides behind as he watches them. During the dance he will act as if he is stalking the game animals and hides behind his symbolic stick by kneeling behind it. After these dances are over the Wolf is offered cornmeal or prayer feathers so the tribe may learn from him and secure game on their hunt. The Wolf katsina is a powerful hunter who brings food to the village. The Wolf is considered a great pack hunter who helps and guides the hunters on large combined hunts by using his great knowledge to find and capture game animals. The Wolf is guardian of the East and symbolizes the ability to work as part of a team. Wolf is a teacher and a pathfinder.
