This opus is the last of my bird series sculptures. The peacock is constructed in three different styles: folded paper modules, coiled paper, and handpainted butterflies made of feathers. I used a special glossy paper throughout the entire sculpture that mimics the natural sheen of real peacocks. The entire piece is displayed on an oval cut wooden board and pedestal with sample pieces showing the individual modules and the papers it's folded from.
All pieces are constructed in the same stacking and weaving pattern in my pottery sculptures. I would not be this developed in my craft had it not been for the bird sculptures I started out making.
*This opus won the Alan Houser, Inc. Innovation Award for the 2018 Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair and Market. Award ribbon will be included with purchase of the original piece.
