This opus is my first two dimensional sculpture. It is inspired by Iranian rug weaving designs and tells a story.
Starting from the bottom, we all start our life from the mother and father, represented by the seeds at the bottom. These seeds blossom into the unique individual, or flower, that we are. As we age, the tree begins to grow. Eventually, branches emerge and we meet our significant others. The bird on the right represents the male. The bird on the right is the female. The male is the protector, whose wings shield their partner from all things negative. The female is the beauty in which all life starts. On her branch, she holds a flower.
The tree continues its growth and more branches sprout from the trunk. These branches represent the children who blossom into their own flowers and start their own tree of life.
As we near the end of our tree, the flower we once were begin to wither and loose it's petals. These petals will eventually fall and return to the earth.
This opus is mounted on a light gray mat and framed by a dark red frame that transitions to black.
