Steampunk Butterfly: This is the first in a series of steampunk art pieces that Brian is working on. With this piece, Brian intends to give the impression of age, of a machine at the end of its useful life, much like a steam locomotive that has been replaced by a newer diesel powered unit. The body, legs, guns and other elements are finished in a black oxide patina with a semi gloss protective coating. The stainless steel elements including the proboscis, antenna and steam piston hardware have been heated to alter their color and give the impression of age. The wings have received a brass metal coating and are finished with an oxide patina giving them a beautiful antique look.
This piece was recently on display at the Edmonds art festival juried art show.
