My name is Edward Chavez and i am 54 years old from Santo Domingo Pueblo, New Mexico .
I am father of 4, 1 beautiful daughter and 3 handsome boys. I Was born and raised in Santo Domingo Pueblo, where Jewelry was a way of living .
I grew up watching my parents Alfred and Clarita Chavez provide and maintain a lifestyle of what you would call a peddler salesman. As of today, I have came up with my own designs, as well as what was taught to me to pass down in knowledge, provide and keep my customs going.
Ever since I was a little boy, I Remember helping my mother and father making their business grow. We always worked with
natural stones and seashells at an early age. I began to learn how to slice and condition each natural stone and seashell which is known as lapidary work. We learned using blades, hand tools and grinding machines. We had to use the most out of each stones and seashells to prevent wastage. I thought about making something unique, so added the silver work with the designs of my parents and out came a beautiful artwork piece which i have continued to keep up with.
Throughout the years, my children have picked up the jewelry traditions and continue to uphold that tradition . I teach them because it is the way I grew up and want them to continue practicing and passing on the traditions. My children have been introduced to jewelry business by participating in a children"s show which happens in the summer and Christmas time with the portal program i am also apart of in Santa fe, New Mexico. I am very proud of them.
Altogether, this is what has kept me what I am today. The beliefs and traditions of what was taught to me lives through my children now and I continue to strive to show that this life is a way of living . So please feel free to look at the jewelry and know that each piece is designed by hand and crafted with love . Thank you for taking the time to read this and feel free to ask questions about any of my artwork.
