In March of 2006 while on the way to repair a vandalized cemetery in the ghost town of Lehunt, Kansas I heard a rustle in the leaves. Looking toward the sound I saw a Nine-Banded Armadillo rooting through the dirt. Turning my camera towards the busy animal he heard the "Beep" of the camera turning on. Just as I snapped the photo he stood up on his hind legs and sniffed the air. That photo was the inspiration for this painting.
