Eternal Memory

Oil and Acrylic on Panel

In "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe an ebony creature becomes an embodiment of endless grief and therefore memory. Poe uses this common attribute of corvids also exemplified by two famous ravens from Norse mythology, Huginn and Muninn. Everyday they flew around the world, gathering wisdom and knowledge for their omniscient master, Odin. By giving these curious and intelligent birds portals through time and space, they can now amass stores of knowledge so great that the past, present, and future coalesce.
