This piece is hand coiled and formed with red clay.
Each circle are drawn in and cut out with a sharp tool. After the piece has dried, each hole are then sanded to form dimensions like hexagons and pentagons within the piece.
I slip the piece with a micaceous slip in and the outer part of the surface. I then burnish the mica into the structured piece with a wooden tool.
The piece is then fired in a kiln to get that even orange reddish glow and golden sparkle from the mica.
I love how this piece holds it's own in structure. Space with Holes.
