"The Last Tree" is a metal sculpture with a message: “If we continue down this road of environmental destruction we may one day destroy this beautiful world.” "The Last Tree” is the artists interpretation of the steampunk tree. A realistic steam power plant complete with fuel tanks, boiler, steam engine/generator and condenser gives power to a quintet of LED spot lights. (Actual power for the lights comes from a wall socket). In this dark post apocalyptic world of the future, a group of boiler makers in South America have contrived to keep the last tree left standing in the rainforest alive...at least until the fuel tanks run out. Black oxide patinated steel and brass give a moderately distressed appearance to the power plant while beautiful dye oxide patinas give the tree a bright, detailed appearance.
This piece was recently on display at the Edmonds art festival juried art show.
